CNN Interviews ACE Entrepreneurs

Thanks to the Appalachian Regional Commission and Georgia Department of Community Affairs, a producer and crew from CNN Presents came to interview Connie Smith, of Pets + in Towns County and Lisa Davies, of Happy Home Cleaning Service in Hall County. Both women shared how they have used entrepreneurship to create a better life for themselves. The show, which is sponsored by the Clinton Foundation Initiative’s Global War on Poverty, aired over Labor Day Weekend.

ACE presents on MIT Satellite Broadcast: Can you do well by “doing good”?

On September 21, Grace Fricks, ACE President & CEO, will join other experts at this satellite broadcast from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Georgia Public Broadcasting to explore the opportunities for entrepreneurs in developing markets around the world and here at home. Presented in association with the MIT Media Lab and the MIT Program in Developmental Entrepreneurship, this program will open the eyes and minds of entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on emerging global markets. During the evening’s first segment, hear real-world success stories from entrepreneurs and the ways MIT is taking a leading role in globalization efforts for the 21st century. The second part of the program will feature a live Atlanta panel of local experts to discuss and answer questions on opportunities in underserved areas in the Southeast region.

Wachovia Corp. partners with ACE in financial literacy

Wachovia Corp. presents ACE with a $20,000 grant for providing financial education in the Hispanic community.

Connie Bryant, Wachovia’s Community Development Officer, says the partnership with ACE should be very successful. “The work ACE has done is really incredible. Many of their target markets are the same as ours.  Given our commitment to financial literacy and microenterprise development, this partnership was a good fit.”

Wachovia Corporation is one of the nation’s largest diversified financial services companies, providing 13.4 million household and business relationships with a broad range of banking and asset management services.

SBA contributes $200,000 for re-lending to micro businesses

ACE celebrated its partnerships with U.S. Small Business Administration, Small Business Development Center and the University of West Georgia. Sharing their stories were Melissa Garcia, of La Chiquita in Villa Rica, Richard Eusery, of Embroidery from the Heart in Hiram, and Chris Price, of Atlanta Gutter Professionals in Douglasville
